Katherine Mary (Ellam) Mahl

July 9th, 1969 – May 7th, 2018

Katherine Mary (Ellam) Mahl was a beautiful soul who touched the hearts of each and every person she met, who loved and was loved beyond the depths of anyone’s wildest imagination. She was a friend, an aunt, a sister, and most importantly, a mother. Her memory will live on in her four beautiful children (McKenzie, Hunter, Hope, and Luke), her loyal brother and his wife (Patrick and Michelle), two nieces and a nephew (Scout, Bailey, and Mason), and her beloved mother (Theresa). She was preceded in death by her father (William). Katherine lost her battle to breast cancer surrounded by loved ones who came from far and wide to share their beautiful stories of how she had impacted their lives. When asked to describe her with one word, people would say things like kind, passionate, giving, adventurous and resilient, but just one word doesn’t do her justice. It serves her legacy better by remembering her as the mom who drove up onto a football field during practice just to get her son for an appointment, or the sister who used to sneak stray dogs into her parent’s house so they wouldn’t go cold and hungry, or the friend who cared so deeply for others that she put their needs before her own, even at her weakest moments. So the next time you’re feeling a little adventurous or unsure, or there’s a hole in your heart where Katherine used to be, just remember her four favorite words and lead with love, grace and gratitude: one life, live it. Presentation of retirement credentials from the Ohio State Patrol will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 4:00PM followed by visitation until 8:00PM at the SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave, Columbus, Ohio where funeral service to honor Kathy’s life will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10:00AM. Pastor Clark Hess officiating.
